Monday 2 June: The Void, Dirtbox

Another gig in the Hive

Dirtbox

First things first these guys are not my style at all but I actually enjoyed them. They know how to communicate with a crowd. They sound so tight. They were pretty much brilliant so I totally dug them

The Void

Saturday 24 May: Yashin, Allstationsdown, From Collisions I Collapse, Calling all Superheroes, No Way Back

This gig was at the Hive

No Way Back

As far as bands go these guys are a pretty young band but my, they are pretty awesome. They played a real short set but it was so tight it was brill. I think we can expect a lot more from this band.

From Collisions I Collapse

This is another band with quite a lot of promise. I loved the cover of Vanessa Carlton that they did...very clever so yeah look out for these guys and try and see them if you can. You will be totally surprised by them.

Calling all Superheroes

This band are also musically good. The singing needs a bit of work but with more gigs and more practice that will be fixed. The stuff that these guys played were good and they know how to work the stage. Good stuff

Allstationsdown

Yet another established band who are truly awesome. It is so good to see bands who actually know what they are doing on stage so I recommend that you see this guys if you get the chance. They are musically brilliant and they are as so amazing to watch

Yashin

Finally the band I went to see. These guys were awesome again. I love what they do. I love that they do it so well. Everything about these guys just blows me away. It was gutting that they were only allowed to play for 20 minutes but it was the best 20 minutes of the gig. Just amazing

Thursday 15th May: Drive-by Argument, Page 6

This gig was at Heriot-Watt Student Union.

Page 6

I didn't really like these guys. I will say that they were well rehearsed etc but everything just sounded a bit samey and they songs were so repetitive. These guys are perfect for anyone wanting a gig where they can dance.

Drive-By Argument

Ok so I absolutely adore these guys. Everytime I see them they get better and better. Their songs are so different and these guys know how to own a stage. I love the awkward movement that these guys have got going on and I will definately be going to see them again and again. Just love it.

Thursday 27 March: Flood of Red, Yashin, Azriel, My Actions Your Exit

Another gig at Liquid Rooms, totally rad venue.
Before I start I think I should say this is the only gig I have EVER been to where I liked all the bands. Gonna definately see every one of these bands again.

My Actions Your Exit

Music wise these guys were great. The only thing that ruined it for me was they talk too much and they talk over each other. Not cool!
A great band to go and see if you want a dance though.

Azriel

These guys kill, and they're funny. Dig the shouting, exceptionally clear for the most part. The vocalist completely owned the stage. Bravo to him, not something I've seen that much in Scottish bands. Hard-hitting beats which in all honesty couldn't be ignored and I did tap my feet.

Yashin

My favourite band of the night. I thought these guys owned. They have a perfect balance between singing and shouting. Magical. Vocalist was in the crowd within the first couple of songs - totally rad! Gonna order a CD when funds come in and I suggest everyone else do the same!

Flood of Red

Dig these guys too. Only one problem - the keyboardist spat on stage. This is an absolute pet hate and something I find incredibly disgusting. Other than that awesome band - have a kind of Saosin feel to them which can only be good! I've never seen a band that move quite so much - it's awesome - totally gets you into the music.

Wolframio, Villians, Hotel Ahead

The following bands have been recommended to me and I have not seen them live

Wolframio

I quite like these guys. They are from Spain and have quite a nice sound to them. From the lack of activity on their myspace I'm assuming they're quite a young band but I could be wrong. Screaming vocals are quite good. Some more definition in the words would be quite good. Singing vocals are a bit flat and the singer needs to improve on this. On the whole though these guys are pretty good and hopefully there will be more stuff for me to check out soon

The following bands were recommended by a fellow music blogger
Cheers EmilyONION
Check her out and see if our opinions differ.

Villians

Despite what the name says this is a one man band. This guy is quite interesting. The use on banjos is a great idea but I find his voice quite whiney in fact. Some of his songs seem to lack pitch and I don't find anything catchy about him. Instrument wise this guy is brilliant. There's a wide range and there is no restriction into category which is ace to hear.

Hotel Ahead

In all honesty after listening to Days In The Sun from these guys I was all ready to give up on them. It's not a real indication of the talent of these guys. Wait til you get to Figure Me Out and you will be pleasantly surprised. This tune is catchy and the vocals are so easy to hear. The singer has such a soft easy-listening voice. Then I dig the opening of Friday Nights. It's a top tune and if it is ever available on download it will be on my music list. I can't wait for more tracks from these guys. I'm hoping they will develop an even more mature sound.

Saturday 15 March: Little Kicks, Chutes, The One Day Speakers

So this is my first gig review
Firstly I have to say I didn't stay for the Little Kicks because I wasn't feeling well.

The One Day Speakers

I can honestly say that these guys were nothing more than interesting. If I could have heard what the singer was saying half the time it might have improved. Everything sounded very samey and rather bland. There was no conviction in the singers.
There are many things I hate about bands
1. disorganisation - a feature of this band
2. drinking on stage - I hate this, I'm paying to see you play not to get smashed - another feature of this band
3. arrogance on stage - the bassist oozed this and it is not attractive at all!
4. hiding behind your instrument - I think that every member of this band is guilty of that

Chutes
I loved this band. I loved the movement of the singer. I am digging the whole awkward thing that's about just now. I loved the emotion of the singer. I felt like he meant every word he sang. The whole feel of the band was incredible. A very mature sound which I am loving. I am definately gonna see these guys again.

The beginning of my blog

I decided to start this blog cause I don't know of anyone who reviews gigs and albums and stuff that I am interested in.
I'm not going to be all correct on here I am just going to say what I think.
Feel free to disagree with me but please don't insult me.
I have a right to an opinion as do you.
I have really strong tastes in music and am open to all kinds of music.
Obviously I have prefered genres but these in no way influence my opinion on other genres.
If I don't like a band I will just say so.
If I think they have good qualities and can improve I will say so.
If I think they rock I will say so.
If you want me to check out your band leave a comment or drop me an email or visit my myspace: www.myspace.com/_fallenangel_
This blog will be pretty haphazard because I don't get much of a chance to gig but I am hoping that this blog will force me to go to more.
